UASA Media Release: 6 August 2024

Statement by Abigail Moyo, spokesperson of the trade union UASA:

The drop in fuel prices is good news for workers struggling to survive financially.

The Department of Mineral Resources and Energy announced a small fuel price adjustment for August.

As from midnight today, inland prices for petrol 93 octane and 95 octane will drop 15 cents per litre to R22.71 and R23.11 respectively, diesel 0.05% and diesel 0.005%between 17 and 28 cents to between R20.38 and R20.75 per litre, illuminating paraffin 22 cents to R14.80 per litre, and LPGAS 14 cents to R35.95 per kg, supported by the oil price and the stronger rand/dollar price.

While UASA welcomes the decrease, the average South African still struggles to fill their tank or afford public transport. The Department of Mineral and Petroleum Resources should review the fuel pricing structure to provide relief for workers.
