Statement by Abigail Moyo, spokesperson of the trade union UASA:
UASA is pleased to announce the appointment of its new President Ashmica Manoojahdass, 1st Vice President, Natalie Lekay and Management Committee (MANCOM) member, Ivan Scott, following their election by the National Executive Committee (NEC) earlier today.
This important development marks a new chapter in the leadership of the union, as UASA continues to strengthen its governance structures and advance the interests of its members across sectors.
The newly elected President will assume responsibility of guiding the strategic direction of the union, working closely with the Vice Presidents and the broader leadership collective to ensure that UASA remains a strong and effective voice for members. The appointment of the new MANCOM member also promotes the union’s commitment to strong, representatives and leadership.
UASA expresses confidence in the capability and knowledge of its leaders. Their election reflects the trust placed in them by the NEC to uphold the values of the organisation and to advocate for the rights and interests of members.
The election of new leadership is a significant moment for UASA, as a union that have been Caring and Protecting since 1894.
UASA remains committed to its mandate of protecting workers’ rights, promoting fair labour practices and ensuring that the voice of its members is represented across sectors.
We extend our best wishes to the new leadership in their respective duties, trusting they will lead with dedication and integrity.
