UASA Media Release: 1 May 2025
Statement by Abigail Moyo, spokesperson of the trade union UASA:
On Workers’ Day, we celebrate the vital contributions of all workers to our national economy. Today, 1 May 2025, UASA honours its members and all workers, expressing gratitude for their dedication and hard work. We acknowledge the labour organisations that advocate for workers’ rights, protecting them from poor working conditions and discrimination.
During this collective bargaining season, we urge labour representatives and employers to work together to advance workers while considering the impact on economic growth and industry prosperity.
It’s crucial to address the impact of climate change on occupational health and safety as we strive for sustainable and inclusive economies that protect all workers. Job security is essential, and we must hold employers accountable to ensure viable employment for the future.
As UASA marks 130 years as one of South Africa’s longeststanding trade unions, we remain committed to serving the interests and rights of all workers thanks to the trust and support of our members. We wish our members and all workers a happy Workers’ Day. UASA is an affiliate of the Federations of Unions of South Africa (FEDUSA), the second-largest federation in the country, representing over 610,000 members across 21 affiliated trade unions.
