UASA Media Release: 05 November 2024

Statement by Abigail Moyo, spokesperson of the trade union UASA:

After enjoying five consecutive months of reductions in the fuel price, UASA is disappointed that a noticeable price hike at the pumps is in store for consumers just ahead of the festive season when workers travel to go home and visit their families or go away on their annual holiday.

The Department of Petroleum and Mineral Resources (DMRE) announced the fuel price adjustment as follows:

  • Both grades of petrol (93 and 95 octane) will increase by 25c/L, and the wholesale prices of diesel will increase by 20c/l for low sulphur 50ppm fuel and 21c/l for 500ppm sulphur diesel.
  • The wholesale price of illuminating paraffin will increase by 21c/L, while consumers will pay 36c/kg more for LPGAS.

According to the economic outlook, the main reason for the fuel price adjustments is the increase in average international product prices for petrol, diesel and illuminating paraffin during the period under review.

UASA urges its members and other workers to make wise travel arrangements for the festive season. While we hope economic challenges will ease in the new season to allow financial relief for consumers, UASA encourages its members and fellow consumers to be money-wise throughout the festive season, remembering to adopt efficient ways to use fuel and save for the future.
