Statement by Abigail Moyo, spokesperson of the trade union UASA:
UASA congratulates the more than 1 million learners who wrote the 2025 National Senior Certificate (NSC) exams. We also acknowledge educators and the Department of Basic Education for their dedication and commitment throughout the academic year.
While many have eagerly awaited their results, this period can also be stressful and anxiety-inducing for some learners. Mental health remains important for both learners and parents. We encourage parents to support their children in every way possible.
We remind learners to treat themselves with empathy and care during this time. Take care of your mental and emotional well-being. Avoid self-criticism; you have done your best to achieve good results.
Do not dismiss your feelings. Remember, your parents have experienced similar challenges and understand the stress and anxiety involved. Communicate openly with them and let them know you need their support. Being open about your emotions can help, and outcomes may be better than expected.
If you are disappointed with your results, consider options such as rewriting exams, pursuing a bridging course, or changing your course or institution. We encourage learners and parents to take practical steps and seek out accessible opportunities.
We also encourage learners and parents to be vigilant when seeking opportunities. As opportunities arise, swindlers also linger about, trying to exploit desperate students and parents. UASA warns prospective students and parents not to fall prey to scam jobs and bogus tertiary institutions that exploit their desperation to acquire further qualifications. Parents and students must carefully research the available options before applying to any institution.
