UASA Sector News: 15 June 2026
Statement by Abigail Moyo, spokesperson of the trade union UASA:
UASA is pleased with the positive outcome for its members following proceedings at the Commission for Conciliation Mediation and Arbitration (CCMA) in Vereeniging.
The proceedings followed after an employer where UASA members are employed had initiated a Section 189A retrenchment process, placing employees’ jobs at risk. UASA challenged the proposed retrenchments and referred the matter as a mutual interest dispute, firmly fighting for the rights and livelihoods of our members.
Following various engagements at the CCMA, the employer withdrew the proposed retrenchments. This outcome provided job security and the much-needed relief for UASA members and all workers employed in the organisation.
We extend our appreciation to the members who trusted UASA as a capable labour organisation to assist them collectively.
UASA remains committed to protecting its members, defending fair labour practices, and ensuring that workers have a strong voice on matters that affect their livelihoods.
