Statement by Abigail Moyo, spokesperson of the trade union UASA:
UASA is proud to announce the successful negotiation and conclusion of a favourable two-year wage agreement with Kopanong Gold Mine. The agreement was concluded on behalf of UASA members and all employees covered by the bargaining unit.
The agreement applies to permanent employees in Categories 4-8 (Miners and Artisans) and Officials.
Key provisions of the agreement include:
- Category 4 – 8 employees (surface and underground): Salary increase of R1,000 per month in both Year 1 and Year 2.
- Miners and Artisans: 5% increase on the standard rate of pay in both Year 1 and Year 2.
- Lower-Level Officials (B1 – B4): Increase of R1,000 or 5%, whichever is greater, in both Year 1 and Year 2.
- Officials: 5% increase on the standard rate of pay in both Year 1 and Year 2.
In addition, the Living-Out Allowance for all employees within the bargaining unit will increase by R100 per year, rising to R2,650 per month in Year 1 and R2,750 per month in Year 2.
The agreement is effective from 1 July 2026.
UASA welcomes this outcome as a meaningful step towards improving the economic well-being of its members and employees covered by the agreement. The union commends its negotiating team for its commitment, professionalism and dedication throughout the collective bargaining process.
UASA also acknowledges the constructive engagement and cooperation demonstrated by Kopanong Gold Mine and fellow labour organisations during the negotiations, which contributed to achieving a mutually beneficial outcome.
