Statement by Abigail Moyo, spokesperson of the trade union UASA:
UASA is proud to have played a leading role in negotiating and concluding a significant three-year wage agreement with DHT T/A Amatshe Gold on behalf of its members employed by the company.
This agreement marks a historic milestone, as it is the first time the company has engaged with organised labour in a collective bargaining process. The successful outcome reflects the value of constructive engagement between employers and employee representatives.
It demonstrates the trust UASA members have placed in organised labour to advance their interests while supporting workplace growth and sustainability.
The agreement will be effective from 2026 to 2029. Under its terms, employees will receive a 5% salary increase in the first year, followed by an annual increase equal to the Consumer Price Index (CPI) plus 1% in each of the second and third years of the agreement.
Housing and transport allowances will also increase in line with the agreed annual adjustments.
UASA welcomes the inclusion of CPI-linked wage increases, which recognise the ongoing impact of rising living costs on workers. By ensuring that remuneration adjustments are aligned with inflation, the agreement helps safeguard employees’ purchasing power and contributes to greater financial stability for workers and their families.
The agreement was concluded and signed jointly with the National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa (NUMSA), underscoring the importance of unity and collaboration in securing meaningful benefits for employees.
