UASA Media Release: 15 September 2025
Statement by Abigail Moyo, spokesperson of the trade union UASA:
UASA has successfully secured a 4.5% wage increase for its members at the South African State Theatre for the 2025/26 year, along with a one-time 1% incentive tied to performance submissions.
This increase provides much-needed relief and stability to our members, particularly as they face pressures in a struggling economy. Feedback from employees has been overwhelmingly positive, with members welcoming this outcome as a sign of progress and recognition of their value.
We take pride in the fact that the employer and labour have agreed on a wage increase that aligns with the cost of living, primarily as indicated by the Consumer Price Index (CPI).
This significant wage increase will greatly contribute to stabilising our members’ finances. The above-inflation wage increases are a positive outcome for workers, emphasising the importance of fair and reasonable adjustments in collective bargaining.
We encourage all workers in the Arts and Entertainment sector to continue their hard work to ensure sustainability. Together, we must protect our industries for a better future.
