UASA Media Release: 08 August 2023
Statement by Abigail Moyo, spokesperson of the trade union UASA:
UASA as part of organised labour constituency and the Amanzi Bargaining Council successfully negotiated a salary increase for our members of 7% with the South African Association of Water Utilities (SAAWU) who present all the Employers within water utilities and part of the Bargaining council.
In terms of the agreement, the employees will receive a housing allowance of R3 500 per month, effective from 1 July 2023 to 30 June 2024.
UASA is hopeful that the wage increase at SAAWU will positively contribute to the livelihood and wellbeing of our members and all workers employed in the water sector.
The water sector plays a significant role in the South African economy with approximately 5 000 workers falling under the Amanzi Bargaining Council.
