Statement by Abigail Moyo, spokesperson of the trade union UASA:
UASA negotiated a one-year wage increase agreement with Sibanye Stillwater Gold Mine Operations on behalf of its members.
The agreement between labour and the mining house was signed at Birchwood Conference Centre in Boksburg under the auspices of the Commission for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration (CCMA).
In terms of the agreement:
- Category 4 – 8 workers will receive an increase of 5,5% or R900, whichever is the highest on basic pay.
- Miners and artisans will receive an increase of 5,5% or R900, whichever is the highest on basic pay.
- Officials will receive an increase of 5,5% on the gross remuneration package.
The agreement is effective until June 2025. UASA is pleased that four unions collaborated and negotiated on a united front to benefit all workers employed by the gold mine. Fruitful negotiations that benefit our members’ financial position prove that collective bargaining remains a crucial pillar of the labour force.
We hope such trends will continue supporting economic growth and sustainability in our sectors and industries.
