Statement by Abigail Moyo, spokesperson of the trade union UASA:

UASA successfully negotiated and concluded a one-year wage increase agreement with the Tau Lekoa Gold Mining Company.

The wage increase is 5% across the board, effective 1 July 2023. It covers all permanent employees in categories 4 – 8, miners, artisans, and officials’ recognition units.

The mine’s current medical insurance scheme will be replaced with a full one. Other benefits will remain unchanged.

UASA wishes to congratulate its negotiation team, operational manager Pine Pienaar, sector manager Johnny White and divisional manager Nico van Rooyen, who negotiated the agreement on behalf of our members.

In honour of Nelson Mandela Month, the wage agreement was signed at the house of the late president in Orlando West, in Soweto.
