Statement by Abigail Moyo, spokesperson of the trade union UASA:
UASA hosted two law students from the University of Western Ontario in Canada as part of the South African Society for Labour Law (SASLAW) Pro bono Canadian Fellowship Student Programme.
The program aims to expose students to union practices and how they work in South African labour law context. UASA engaged with the students on the union’s structure practices and how the union implements labour Law in South Africa.
UASA Legal Representative Gordon Nokhanda of MM Baloyi Attorneys, provided insights on Business Rescue and Liquidations in South Africa and how it affects unions in the country. SASLAW is a non-profit organization.
The Society aims to promote the advancement of labour law as a legal and academic discipline and encourage collaboration between lawyers and other experts within the field of labour law.
The students are Tiana Gleason and William Stevens.
