The UASA Minerals Division participated in the IndustriALL Global Union – Anglo American Global Network Meeting held in Rosebank, Johannesburg. The two-day meeting was attended by union affiliates from South Africa, Botswana, Namibia, Australia and Zimbabwe who engaged on key issues affecting workers in the global mining sector.

Addressing delegates at the meeting, IndustriALL Assistant General Secretary Kemal Özkan highlighted the importance of strong international cooperation between unions to ensure that workers’ interests remain central in the operations of the mining companies that they represent.

Key focus of the discussions was the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the unions and Anglo American, with particular attention given to strengthening health and safety standards across operations. UASA strongly believes that the safety and wellbeing of workers must remain a priority in the mining sector.

These discussions provide a broader regional perspective and reinforce the importance of collaboration among unions to address shared concerns, including workplace safety and the need for responsible and sustainable mining practices. Through such engagements, UASA continues to advocate for stronger and responsible mining practices that respect workers and communities.

As an affiliate of IndustriALL Global Union, UASA remains committed to working with global partners to advance the rights, safety and dignity of workers in the mining sector.
