Statement by Abigail Moyo, spokesperson of the trade union UASA
UASA extends its heartfelt congratulations to the newly elected leadership of the National Union of Mineworkers (NUM), following their 18th National Elective Congress.
We warmly welcome President Phillip Vilakazi and General Secretary Mpho Phakedi, along with the entire leadership team. Their election marks a significant step forward in the organisation’s journey toward achieving effective worker representation and advocacy across various sectors in South Africa.
As committed affiliates of IndustriALL Global Union, we are eager to collaborate with the new leadership on key issues that impact our workforce, including job security, skills development, health and safety and the transition to a sustainable economy.
