UASA Sector News: 6 March 2023
Statement by Abigail Moyo, spokesperson of the trade union UASA:
UASA wishes its Regional Coordinator in the Northam province (Pilanesberg region) at Anglo American, Mr. Poena Siemens, all the best on his retirement.
Poena became a member of UASA in 1987. Years later, his passion and interest in labour relations resulted in his appointment as a Shop Steward in 1997 and Regional Coordinator in 2014, a position he served in until retirement.
For years, Poena played a role and made remarkable contributions to UASA’s Minerals Division. On many occasions, his employment and relations at Anglo American and UASA have yielded positive results for our members in terms of collective bargaining, section 189 and 197 processes.
Poena also served and represented UASA members on several boards and platforms, including:
- The CCMA, Conciliation, and Arbitrations.
- Labour cases regarding grievances, disciplinary hearings, and fatal inquiries.
- Anglo American Platinum steering committees, Housing, ER Subcommittees, Mine Health and Safety Council (MHSC), etc.
The UASA Minerals Division team will miss you dearly. Farewell Poena.
