UASA Sector News: 2 February 2024
Statement by Abigail Moyo, spokesperson of the trade union UASA:
UASA is pleased that victory was obtained in a contractual dispute initiated by its member, a writer, against their employer, a national radio station, regarding unpaid fees that were due to her.
Following a few failed attempts over a period of a year, the member approached UASA, who successfully intervened and the matter was resolved within 30 days.
UASA is pleased that the outcome of the dispute was in favour of its member and that this case serves as an eye-opener to employers and those working in the sector. Employers in the Arts and Entertainment sector should be fair and transparent about the terms and conditions of contract obligations that they sign with contract workers.
UASA launched the Arts and Entertainment sector in August 2023, extending its membership benefits to include legal assistance to all professionals in the Arts and Entertainment Industry in the event of contractual disputes.
UASA is proud to have expanded its horizons; it has assisted in protecting the interests and rights of professionals who earn their living in this significant economic sector.
We are pleased about the outcome of this process and the effort put into making this win possible.
