Statement by Abigail Moyo, spokesperson of the trade union UASA:
UASA has successfully yielded positive results in wage negotiations with chrome miner SAMANCOR, signing a three-year wage agreement on behalf of its members and all workers employed by the company. The signed agreement is valid from 1 July 2024 to 30 June 2027.
The agreement makes provision for differentiation between levels, with some levels receiving a fixed-amount increase and others a percentage-of-salary increase. In terms of the agreement, level A4 to B3 workers will receive an increase of 6% each year for the duration of the contract. While level B4 to CU workers will receive an increase of 6% in 2024 and 6% or CPI in 2025 and 2026.
The company’s contributions to medical aid, housing and transport allowance will also increase every year for the duration of the agreement.
UASA is pleased that another fruitful agreement on behalf of its members was signed with Samancor. UASA believes collective agreements assist our members by supporting their future economic position. We hope other employers follow suit and negotiate justifiable increases for their employees.
