Statement by Abigail Moyo, spokesperson of the trade union UASA
UASA hosted a comprehensive two-day Operational Staff Training at its Head Office in Constantia Kloof, Roodepoort. The training aimed to enhance operational staff’s skills, knowledge, and effectiveness while ensuring alignment with the union’s strategic objectives.
The session commenced with an operational session, during which Divisional Managers provided feedback on their respective divisions’ performance. They also outlined their strategies for future growth, strongly focusing on membership retention and expansion.
A key highlight of the training was a series of interactive sessions facilitated by Johan Harmse, an expert in workplace performance and team dynamics. His sessions covered essential topics that are crucial for the success and adaptability of operational staff, including:
- Building a High-Performance Team through Effective Inter-Personal Relationships: This session emphasized the importance of communication, collaboration, and mutual understanding in fostering a productive and cohesive work environment.
- Key Focus Areas for Employees to Remain Relevant, Adaptable, and Successful: Harmse provided valuable insights into how employees can stay ahead in an evolving workplace by continuously upskilling, embracing change, and developing a proactive mindset.
- Building a Successful Team in a Changing Office Environment: With the workplace undergoing constant transformation, this session addressed strategies for maintaining team cohesion, motivation, and efficiency amid shifting work dynamics.
The training was a resounding success, equipping UASA’s operational staff with the knowledge to navigate economic challenges, drive membership growth and contribute effectively to the organisation’s long-term objectives.
This session provided a valuable opportunity for the operational staff to gain insight into the union’s current standing and collective vision for the future. UASA is proud of its operational team for actively participating in the training.
