UASA Media Release: 03 December 2024

Statement by Abigail Moyo, spokesperson of the trade union UASA:

Ahead of the festive holidays, motorists will head to the pumps with mixed feelings as fuel prices mark a second consecutive month of increases.

According to the Department of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, at midnight both grades of petrol will increase by 17c/l. Diesel will increase by 54.88 and 55.88 cents per litre respectively. Illuminating paraffin will increase by 48.88c/l and LPGas by 172c/kg.

The fuel price increase will particularly affect sectors such as logistics, agriculture and manufacturing, potentially leading to higher goods and services prices over the festive season and into the New Year. The rise in illuminating paraffin prices will burden households depending on it for cooking and heating.

UASA encourages motorists to start financial preparations for their holiday travels on time, check critical components of their vehicles including tyres, brakes, lights and oil levels to prevent breakdowns during peak travel periods, and to go for a medical check-up to make sure you are fit to travel.

UASA wishes its members and all motorists a safe journey to their holiday destinations. Please practice caution when travelling and obey the rules of the road.

Be vigilant, arrive alive.
