UASA Media Release: 15 June 2023

Statement by Abigail Moyo, spokesperson of the trade union UASA:

The two-day IndustriALL Regional Feminism Conference, held at Monkey Valley Resort in Cape Town this week, focuses on women’s empowerment, learning how to advocate for change and challenging social and workplace norms that are unfair to women.

UASA is attending the conference as part of organised labour and its affiliation with IndustriALL Global Union.

Women need to fight for their rights, share knowledge, and empower each other on proper ways to navigate gender-based challenges.

The main objectives of the conference include:

  • Building feminist power within the labour movement.
  • The implications of the gender wage gap for the labour movement.
  • ILO Convention 190 – Implications for tackling gender-based violence and promoting the advancement of sexual and reproductive health and rights for the labour movement.

These dialogues are essential to creating solutions for workplace and societal challenges affecting us and ensuring our organisations’ growth and sustainability.
