UASA Media Release: 13 September 2021
Statement by Abigail Moyo, spokesperson of the trade union UASA:
UASA welcomes the decision by Pres. Cyril Ramaphosa to move the country to adjusted lockdown level 2 as from today.
The call follows after a significant increase in fellow South Africans doing the right thing by registering and getting the Covid-19 jab.
As announced by Pres. Ramaphosa, the country is now administering a million doses every 4 to 5 days, while the total number of vaccine doses administered in the country now stands at 14.6 million doses.
UASA is proud of all fellow South Africans who have come forward and chose to be responsible for their well-being and those of their families by getting vaccinated.
The move to alert level 2 comes at the right time as it will allow our hospitality and entertainment sectors more flexibility in their operations. We believe that more businesses will be able to re-open and resume their work.
UASA urges our members and fellow South Africans who are yet to register for the jab to be inspired by fellow citizens who have already received the vaccine. The sooner we all get vaccinated, the better as we can all look forward to getting back to how we knew life as before.
In the meantime, it remains mandatory for every person to wear a face mask, wash and sanitize their hands and keep a social distance of at least one metre when in public. Staying safe and alive is of the utmost importance, if we have done it before, we can certainly do it again.
