UASA Media Release: 8 October 2021
Statement by Abigail Moyo, spokesperson of the trade union UASA:
UASA successfully negotiated and entered into a four-year wage increase agreement with five employer parties within the Plastics Sector.
The finalized agreement states that our members and other workers employed by companies that signed the wage agreement will receive a 6% increase on their minimum wage in year 1 and CPI increases in years 2, 3 and 4. The agreed wage increase is effective from 1 October 2021, while the implementation of the Conditions of Employment is from 8 October 2021, guaranteed that there will not be any downward variation on previous conditions of employment established in the Plastic negotiations forum.
UASA is proud to have been part of such productive wage negotiations. All parties are to sign the agreement by 13 October 2021. UASA is hopeful that this wage increase will positively contribute to the livelihood and wellbeing of our members and all workers employed in the Plastics sector.
