UASA Media Release: 27 May 2022

Statement by Abigail Moyo, spokesperson of the trade union UASA:

UASA’s wage negotiations with Samancor Chrome Limited yielded positive results as the miner agreed to a two-year wage agreement from 1 July 2022 to 30 June 2024.

The agreement makes provision for differentiation between levels, with some levels receiving a fixed-amount increase and others a percentage-of-salary increase. Upon acceptance of the wage agreement, employees receive a once-off cash amount in June 2022 if an agreement is reached before the end of May 2022.

In year 1, Level A4 to B3 employees will receive a once-off cash amount of R2 600 and a fixed monthly amount increase of R1 000 on 1 July 2022. B4 to B5 employees will receive a once-off cash amount of R2 600 and a fixed increase of 6% on 1 July 2022. Level C1 to CU employees will receive a once-off cash amount of R2 000 and a fixed increase of 6%. In year 2, the employees will receive the same once-off cash payment and increases according to their levels as in year 1.

The company’s contribution to the medical aid will increase by 6% to R1 908. The combined housing allowance will increase by 6% to R3 180. The transport allowance will increase to R1908 for employees who currently receive a transport allowance; this excludes employees utilising company-provided bus transport.

UASA is pleased that such a fruitful agreement was concluded on behalf of our members.
