Statement by Abigail Moyo, spokesperson of the trade union UASA:

UASA, in collaboration with the Association of Mineworkers and Construction (AMCU), the National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) and Solidarity, successfully negotiated and entered into a two-year wage agreement with gold producer Village Main Reef.

The concluded agreement states that miners, artisans and officials will receive a 5%-a-year increase for the next two years while Category 4 to 8 employees will receive an increase of R800 a year over the next two years.

Among other benefits, the employees will receive an increase of R100 on housing allowance a year over the next two years as well as an increase on the medical aid benefit.

UASA is proud to have been part of such productive wage negotiations. UASA is hopeful that this wage increase will positively contribute to the livelihood and wellbeing of our members and all workers employed in at Village Main Reef.
