UASA saves jobs in the Sugar industry

UASA is pleased to announce that more than 500 jobs have been saved in the sugar industry.

This follows six months of negotiations and investigations with the Illovo group where engagements took place sometimes well into the night and over weekends in an attempt to find an amicable solution and ultimately save jobs.

UASA is currently engaging with other sugar manufactures in the industry as well as we believe jobs can be saved if organised labour and employers are willing to sit on the same table and discuss.

The sugar industry is under threat from low-cost Chinese imports and UASA calls on the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) to intervene and come up with new policies that will work to benefit our local production and as a result improve the economy and save jobs.

We cannot afford any more job losses.
