UASA Media Release: 18 July 2022
Statement by Abigail Moyo, spokesperson of the trade union UASA:
Today, Mandela Day 2022, South Africans can for the first time in two years physically contribute towards the 67 Minutes initiative to help those in need and contribute towards a great cause.
For its 67 Minutes initiative, UASA gave out blankets and food parcels to those in need around the community of Florida, Gauteng.
The past two years’ Covid-19 restrictions made it challenging to give back to our communities, while the tough economic climate made it unaffordable for some to do so.
UASA encourages its members and fellow South Africans to remember those in need in the spirit of Ubuntu. Nelson Mandela himself said: “It is in your hands, to make a better world for all who live in it.”
Mandela Day should not be the only day to give back to the less fortunate. Working together, we can always step in and do good for those in need.
UASA wishes everyone a Happy Mandela Day.
