Over the past few weeks, UASA has been encouraging our members and the whole of South Africa to buy locally made products and providing reasons as to why this was important.

The coronavirus has dealt a huge blow to our economy, and now with more and more workers returning to work under relaxed lockdown rules, we need to make sure that these workers have jobs to return to.

Below is 10 (ten) reasons we have put together to support the #SupportLocalBusinesses initiative.

Reason 1:

Improve the local economy, local businesses are more likely to utilize other local businesses such as banks, service providers, and farms. This helps to develop, grow, and sustain the economy.

Reason 2

Building your future, local businesses are owned and operated by your fellow South Africans, they care about and are invested in the well-being of this country and its future.

Reason 3

Investing in your home, it shows that you care about the country you live in. You are putting money back into the community you call home.

Reason 4

You are creating/saving jobs, the job market is tight at the moment and by buying local, you are keeping a business open.

Reason 5:

Buying local demonstrates national pride it shows confidence in locally made products

Reason 6:

Buying locally builds trust and positivity, opens minds and hearts, and makes us more independent as a country. A more connected country is safer, more resilient and self-reliant in times of uncertainty

Reason 7:

Buying locally strengthens our country. Local purchases keep the wealth in our country, community, and even neighbourhoods, increasing the prosperity for the people around us.

Reason 8:

Local products also help with making manufacturers and vendors accountable. They are not just an email address, website or telephone number, but are bricks and mortar, in your area, with real people to speak to in person

Reason 9:

A local economy that is full of small businesses, all working hard to innovate and provide superior customer service is good news for the South African consumer. It ensures that the marketplace is robust, that innovation is constantly occurring, and that South Africans have choices when it comes to purchasing.

Reason 10:

South African products tend to be tailored to meet the uniquely South African challenges that are faced in the local economic sectors in a way that international products simply cannot do economically.
