Positive step that will improve SA's international position

UASA welcomes the approval by the Competition Tribunal of the merger between Walmart and Massmart Holdings.

UASA believes this is a positive step towards South Africa becoming a part of the mainstream international economy and that another decision would have reflected negatively on a global level.

However, South Africans will have to take care not to put our own industries at a disadvantage, that job opportunities will not decrease further and that labour standards are not lowered.
